They Are Here!!

Marshall Michael
Born at 307am
5lbs 1/2oz

Lydia Joy
Born at 308am
4lbs 12oz

I just can't get enough of taking pictures of the two of them laying together, if you couldn't tell! And they love each other, it's so wonderful to watch.

A condensed 'birth story'...

Started having contractions steadily Thursday evening at about 6. By 9, I decided to call the doctor. He asked us to wait until they were 4 minutes apart for an hour. Sure enough, I get off the phone with him and the next hour I have contractions 2-4 minutes apart. So off to the hospital we go. They monitored me and the babies for the next two hours. At this point the doctor on call, Dr. Andrew, talks with us about the pros and cons of delivering at 35 1/2 weeks. And we all agreed we felt safe going ahead with the csection. About an hour of prepping later and twenty minutes of surgery we had our babies, now Friday morning!

They both did so well. And health wise doing very well. Both had a little 'grunting', which is just a sign they are having trouble transitioning/breathing. Although Marshall nursed right away in the recovery room, we've still had some trouble with feedings and had to get creative. The lactation consultant coming to see us was enough to make me say screw it, formula feed them! Haha But I'm determined! Lydia has had some trouble keeping warm. But with all this, they have only been taken back to the nursery (away from us) three maybe four times for no more than an hour each time. We are very lucky! And we made great progress over night and today. And obviously this is all quite normal for babies born at 35 weeks! If they keep doing well, they will get to go home when we go home, even better news!

It's a lot of work and quite overwhelming so far, but we are so unbelievably blessed! We even had two special visitors...
